ADVERTISEMENTS:
But many times people do not think correctly and may go wrong in their thinking. When we do not think logically our behaviour will be undesirable and may lead to many problems.
5 Errors in Thinking
1. Effects of prejudices:
Biased information and prejudiced ideas affect our thinking. When we are influenced by prejudices we cannot think logically. We arrive at conclusions on the basis of preconceived ideas. Such thinking many times leads to intergroup, communal and even international conflicts.
2. Influence of emotions:
Emotions affect our thinking and reasoning. People commit suicides, murders, etc. because they are swayed by emotions.
3. Ego-centricity:
This is nothing but self-centeredness. A person who is self-centered thinks only from his point of view and acts according to his own views. He does not bother to what other people think or how other people are affected by his deeds.
4. Superstitions and blind beliefs:
People who are influenced by external forces (external locus of control) believe in luck, God, fortune, curse, karma, etc. They do not think reasonably. On the other hand they think that they are incapable of deciding anything.
5. Wishful thinking:
This kind of thinking leads to overlooking our weaknesses or lapses. In wishful thinking we do not want to look at the darker sides of our life. We do not accept our problems, inabilities, etc. We think that we are alright, our children are good and society is fine. We will be blind folded in wishful thinking.
