The following points highlight the two main types of data to be collected. The types are: 1. The Home Data 2. The School Data.
Type # 1. The Home Data:
This includes general data occupational data, family data, property data, economic status etc:
(i) The general data includes name, parentage, family members, size of the family, presence of step-mother, jealousies among siblings, whether the only child, the presence of grand-mother.

(ii) The occupational data includes the occupation of the father and the mother, the hereditary occupation, the nature of occupation of parents, the conditions of work, the number of hours, absence from home.
(iii) Mishaps in the family also may be elicited. These will include the death of important members, separation, divorce, accidents, quarrels, litigation and frequent transfers.
(iv) The economic data includes the movable and immovable property, the recurring income, income per capita, whether able to finance the pupil for higher studies, general economic condition of the family, the social status.
(v) Other home data will include the information about the education of the parents, their political activities, if any, travelling done by the family, places of pilgrimage, the recreations of the family, the amusements, the social conditions in the neighbourhood, the outdoor companions, the gangs and their influence upon the pupil.
Type # 2. The School Data:

This includes the following:
(i) Achievement Data, i.e., the achievement of the pupil in various school subjects, the internal and external examination marks, the daily work, the home- task completed, backwardness, if any, remedial measures adopted.
(ii) Activities Data, i.e., the estimate of participation in the various co-curricular activities, distinction and proficiency attained in any of the activities.
(iii) Pupil-teacher relationships, i.e., the specific problems of pupil’s behaviour, their history, and the pupil’s relations with the teacher, his loyalty and sincerity, his likes and dislikes.
(iv) Physical Data, which includes the record of the physical health of the child after medical examination from time to time, special physical ailments and disabilities, if any.
(v) Intelligence and Interest data, which includes special abilities and interests of the pupil in various hobbies, activities, subjects and professions, estimated through interest inventories.
(vi) Aptitude Data, which includes the estimate about the aptitudes of the pupils in various fields.
(vii) Personality Data, which includes assessment of the various personality traits made through objective and projective tools of personality assessment.
