Every living organism is unique. No two are exactly alike. All through the organic world, there are great differences among individuals of the same species. Modern psychology teaches that no two human beings are alike.

People differ in levels of intelligence. They are categorized into different categories on the basis of one’s IQ. One can be classified to fall in anyone of the idiot through genius categories.
The intelligence level of individual greatly determines his behaviour, learning, thinking, memory, etc. It is important for the nurse to realize these facts in order to deal effectively with patients.
Understanding the instructions given by the nurses and doctors depends upon the intelligence levels of these patients.

The mentally retarded and below average patients need special training and instructions. Hence it is important for a nurse to have a clear idea of these individual differences.
